VEHICLE SEIZURE

On Monday, 14 September 2026, PCSO Felstead-Solley and PCSO Patchett were conducting evening patrol duties when they received information from members of the public regarding a vehicle being driven by an individual who only held a provisional driving licence and was not being supervised by a suitably qualified driver.

The officers promptly located the vehicle and carried out the necessary checks. These enquiries confirmed that the information provided by the members of the public was accurate. The driver was operating the vehicle without the required supervision, meaning they were not driving in accordance with the conditions of their licence. As a result, their motor insurance was rendered invalid.

Subsequently, the driver was reported for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle without valid insurance. The vehicle was also seized in accordance with relevant legislation.

Uninsured driving remains a significant issue across the UK. The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) states that uninsured driving costs the UK in excess of £1 billion per year when wider economic and social impacts are taken into account.

This incident serves as a reminder that drivers must ensure they comply with all licence conditions and insurance requirements before using a vehicle on a public road. Failure to do so may result in prosecution, penalty points, substantial fines, and the seizure of the vehicle.
